Consisting of nine chapters, the book of Amos is ranked as one of the twelve minor prophetic books in the Bible. Accordingly, religious researchers argue that the book of Amos was the first prophetic book to be written during this time, and for that reason, it set the pace for the rest of the prophetic books to be written (Rendsburg, 1994). Carrying various themes of divine judgment, repentance, divine power, and social justice, the book of Amos presents the prophecy of Amos regarding the fall of the different states in Israel and Judah. The chapter explains the various ways through which they shall receive punishment if they do not repent their sins and ask God for forgiveness. Chapter 4 elucidates on the judgment to be provided on those individuals who are unrepentant of their sins. Specifically, this chapter explains how God will judge the socialites, those who have falsified religious living, as well as, those whose sins have hardened them to the point where they do not recognize their own sins. As the chapter also explains, past calamities that the Israelites were unfortunate to undergo did not encourage repentance, and for that reason, God shall induce more calamities so as to compel Israelites to repentance hence deliverance. Chapter 6 is the key component in the third section of the book of Amos and this chapter provides various announcements of exile for the Israelites. The chapter consists of three main messages and announcements including the messages on the perversion of religion, complacent pride by the Israelites, as well as, pride and injustice. As Amos explains in this chapter, individuals who pompously embrace these attitudes and characters will receive immediate judgment and punishment from God, and for that reason, he encourages such individuals to repent their sins before they come face to face with their doom.
